A truck driver, simply identified as Mr. Friday would have been alive but for six over-zealous policemen attached to the Ondo State Police Command who shot him, setting his new truck ablaze.
A Warri-based businesman, Orogho was on his way to Warri from Lagos last Wednesday when the policemen stopped his truck at about 2. a.m, close to the Ore toll gate After questioning the driver, they allowed him to continue his journey...only for them to shoot at him in company of his manager, Mr. Henshell Gbugbadia who escaped death by the whiskers by running into the bush.
Thinking that the Manager was also dead, the policemen reversed the head of the new trailer towards the direction of Lagos and set it ablaze to blot out any evidence.
After the case was duly reported to the police and investigations made, they allegedly confessed to the crime, saying they had to burn the dead driver and the truck head to erase any trace of the incident because they did not know that the manager survived. The suspects are currently being detained at the State Police Headquarters, Akure.
According to the Chairman of NUPENG Rig Move in Warri, Comrade Ochuko, the matter has been taken over to ensure justice and adequate compensation to the family of the deceased driver, including a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspected mobile policemen.
Such waste of the lives of innocent Nigerians has to be put to an end...or will we say that these policemen were drunk or feeling sleepy? This is not right and we have had enough of it...the Nigerian Police Force should take stringent measures to ensure that this does not repeat itself again!
