Nigerian Teacher that Coulnd't Read Her Certificate!

Adams Oshiomhole

“If you can’t read, what do you teach the pupils, what do you write on the board?”

Those were the words of State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole to a primary school teacher, Mrs. Augusta Odemwinge, that couldn't read a sworn affidavit  she purportedly tendered as part of her credentials.

The governor had uncovered the teacher during a visit to the venue of the verification of certificates of primary school teachers in Edo State.  It was huge drama when Mrs. Odenwingie took her turn during the exercise and the governor, who listened to her defence, asked her to read the affidavit she presented, but she stuttered, to the consternation of everybody around.

Chairman of the state Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mr. Patrick Ikosimi, who was also at the screening to monitor the exercise, said that the woman’s failure was “an embarrassment.”

Seriously, this kind of an exercise is most needed at a time as this when the educational system seems too have taken a backward plunge....and in fact, all primary school teachers should be made to write the Common Entrance...let's see those who will pass...!
